Serious bug ... xserver-xorg-core update kills X

My Acer Aspire 5000 went down yesterday.   X would not start. 

I did the following actions ...

1/ Reinstall from the newest 6.06.1 version.   It booted ok but when I 
did the updates it failed in the same way.

2/ Repeated from the earlier Dapper 6.06 version.   It booted ok too but 
failed after an update.

I noticed that in "1" there were only 4 files to update.   I guessed 
that it was the  "xserver-xorg-core" update so I dis-allowed that one 
update.   Problem is fixed.

It took me about 6 hours or more of work to do a re-install and restore 
my directories.

Please send out a warning.   It may apply only to this computer but then 
again it may be a serious bug that affects others too.
