I'm pretty keen on my laptop not overheating and/or burning a hole in my
lap, even when it's plugged in. The general power saving on my amd64
desktop when it's not doing much of anything useful is likely saving me
some cash on a ridiculously expensive electricity bill.
Just because a machine's plugged into a wall doesn't mean I want it
operating at "ZOMG, FAST!!" levels all the time. On-demand is a good
general-purpose policy for all systems, IMO.
