Right. However, rebuilding the same version seems to work sometimes,
at least it worked once when I tried it.

gdb does; the gnu debuglink in ELF files stores a CRC checksum which
has to match for gdb to accept the debug symbols.

Right, that's why I want to keep the ddebs with some cowboy method
until Launchpad properly supports them.

I discussed this with Matthew, and we agreed that we just live with
this for Edgy. This problem will disappear anyway when we get the bug
reporting tool.

That would indeed be nice.
