Workspace / Desktop feature

I've noticed as I work that it would be absolutely great to have the
workspace switcher have an option of setting the Desktop.  Something
like this:

I have a home Desktop but I also have a project I'm working on which
I'll put on workspace 3.  If I'm on workspace 1,2 or 4 I see my home
Desktop, however, if I've switched to workspace 3, I see only the files
on the Desktop that are associated with my project.  Only the files I
have put there.

This seems like a pretty simple thing and I know some of this has been
discussed before, specifically custom backgrounds for each workspace.
This of course would go beyond that.
