An upgrade from a Debian installation to Ubuntu is at any moment at a 
different point in the spectrum between "really, really hard" and 
"possible" , and Ubuntu chose not to allocate any developer resources to 
supporting this use case.

If you choose to pursue it anyway, it thus becomes a user issue, and is 
better inquired about on the user list.
