On my breezy Colony 4 install:

VeraSe.ttf: "Bitstream Vera Serif" "Roman"
[ ~ ]
tvon at lorax > fc-match sans-serif
Vera.ttf: "Bitstream Vera Sans" "Roman"
[ ~ ]
tvon at lorax > fc-match monospace
VeraMono.ttf: "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono" "Roman"

(and fc-match came with fontconfig)
