Ubuntu and Mandrake are too radically different for that to even be
reasonable. You mentioned Mandrake's Red Hat roots. That alone would
make it an unlikely candidate for a merger with a Debian based distro
like Ubuntu.

Besides, Mandrake, or more recently Mandriva, is primarily KDE-based,
while Ubuntu is fairly GNOME-centric (no disrespect intended to the fine
work of the Kubuntu team).
