No, there was simply a mistake in x-common (Conflicts rather than
Replaces) that forced xorg-common to be deinstalled. xserver-xorg is
most certainly still there.
I've redirected replies to ubuntu-users. Please direct further mail on
this thread there; since it's been fixed, it's no longer a development
issue.
