Are you using a US keyboard? I am and shift/caps works fine for me. 

No shift, no caps: abcdefghijkl
Shift, no caps: ABCDEFGHIJKL
No shift, caps: ABCDEFGHIJKL
Shift, caps: abcdefghijkl

Seems to be as expected to me...
