Ldap and Ubuntu server a no go - serious problems here.

It's slapd that's hanging, so the client-side configuration almost
certainly has nothing to do with it.

So it's not hardware, it's not a specific OpenLDAP version, and it's not
database corruption. Unfortunately, that means I'm baffled. Someone
else might pitch in.
