OpenOffice.org Spellcheck, a bug or just me?

Well, I compeletely removed myspell-en-*, and reinstalled using the
language selector.  This seems to have put dictionary.lst in its
place.  I was then able to create the symlink as suggested above. 
spellcheck now works.
