Grub fails where it used to succeed (Warty and Hoary)
https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=12005
During installation, my wireless card is not recognised unless I
manually install the i83265 module. This worked in Warty and not in
Hoary:
https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8575
On systems with isa sound cards, some sound modules need to be loaded
by hand (snd-es1688, opl3). I was told that this was because it is no
longer safe to probe for these devices since it may cause the kernel to
lock up.
There are already bugs filed about these issues. Since the use of
older hardware is probably not as great as newer devices, and the
solution to these problems probably lies in significant changes to the
linux/ubuntu infrastructure, is it feasable to continue to file bugs
for such hardware? Should there be another process (like a future
release goal, or an UbuntuBelowZero BOF) to handle such problems?
Also, my prism2_usb device is not configured by the networking tool.
I must install linux-wlan-ng and then configure my connection by hand
by running a script which I copy into /etc/hotplug/usb/prism2_usb:
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_hostwep decrypt=true encrypt=true
wlanctl-ng wlan0 dot11req_mibset mibattribute=dot11PrivacyInvoked=true
wlanctl-ng wlan0 dot11req_mibset mibattribute=dot11WEPDefaultKeyID=0
wlanctl-ng wlan0 dot11req_mibset
mibattribute=dot11WEPDefaultKey0="(mysecretWEPkey)"
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autojoin ssid="(myssid)" authtype="sharedkey"
sleep 2
dhclient wlan0
Otherwise, Breezy works like a charm! Thank you for the wonderful
work!
