Well, yes, that's the ugly part of this scheme ;-) But also the main
feature. By having a common base cd it is absolutely clear what is the
common base between Ubuntu derivatives and what is the differences. It's
purely a mental thing. I see two main points of this a) It's a tangible
object to relate to when trying to conceptualize the relationship
between sub-projects, b) In a way it introduces the concept of
dependencies and packages in a concrete way for new users. the CD to CD
dependencies recurse nicely into package to package dependencies.

Maybe it could be an alternative to someday have two compatible base
systems but one of them aiming for LSB compliance. Or in other ways
release components to be combined in various ways without exploding the
amount of cds to be released.

I'm not arguing for this in any particular strength, just airing the
alternative.
