Good day freedom lovers,
Announcing a CFV on the nomination of Matthew Garrett (mjg59) to serve
on the Ubuntu Technical Board.
https://launchpad.net/people/ubuntu-dev/+poll/tb-nomination-mjg59-2005/
The Ubuntu Technical Board serves a key role in the Ubuntu governance
structure. First, it appoints the developers that make Ubuntu into the
software marvel that it is (barring the odd bit of duct tape). Those of
you about to vote know all about Tuesday evening/morning/midnight
meetings, where the TB reviews new maintainer/developer candidates and
approves them to join the Masters of the Universe, or the Core Developer
team.
Second, it discusses and resolves key technical architecture questions
in Ubuntu, as and when those arise. Its members are our highest
authority on technical direction, they have even been known to stare
down the SABDFL.
Mathew Garrett (mjg59) is well-known for his substantial contributions
to free software projects, including Dasher, Debian, and of course
Ubuntu. He has been the volunteer leader of the Ubuntu laptop testing
and integration project, was the late-night architect of the shiny
Usplash soon to debut at a screen near you, and of course few would
forget his wit, charm or scorn if they ever experienced them first hand.
More details from him, and about his involvement and vision, are in the
voting proposition at the URL above.
Now, I apologise in advance for the UI of the voting system, it needs
cleanup and there are patches soon to be applied that will make it
usable. Nonetheless, voting will open on Friday at 00:00 UTC and run for
two weeks. During that time, be sure to ping mjg59 on irc if you have
questions about his technical inclinations. He will also be part of the
tech board meeting scheduled for 20:00 UTC on Tuesday 18 October.
All developers in Ubuntu (both Core and Universe) are entitled to vote.
This is a simple yes/no confirmation vote. A majority "yes" vote will
confirm mjg59 to a seat on the Tech Board, which he would hold for two
years.
You will need to use your Launchpad account, and of course need to be a
member of the ubuntu-dev or ubuntu-core-dev teams.
Bug reports on the voting system should be filed at
https://launchpad.net/products/launchpad/+bugs (see the "report a bug"
link at the top right of the page) and they should be assigned to salgado.
Thanks muchly - to all the developers of Ubuntu, and especially to
Matthew for agreeing to be a candidate.
Mark
