Given that we're talking about the same partition, of course. In my
case, emptying /var/cache/apt/archives won't help if my /home runs
out of space, as I have /var on /dev/hda6 and /home on /dev/hda9.

OTOH, in my case some LVM magic could be suggested, but
I doubt we want to go that way in a simple Trash wizard... :o)
