Laptop Testing

A acquaintance of me has an Acer with a WXGA (1280x800) screen and I
had to set the resolution manually in xorg.conf too when I installed
Ubuntu (Hoary) on his system.  (This laptop has nvidia graphics.)
It seems like if the config tools for X don't "know" this resolution?
