intel 82845G

i installed ubuntu hoary in  PC with intel 82845G  graphics chip
it configured fine (default installation)

but the resolution it's 640x480 ?

now i try to reconfigure with and instruction of a document i wiki
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

but the new xorg.conf  mess my system

so i reinstall backup xorg.conf and again 640x480

i look for the wiki and add this sentence to my Device section i xorg.conf
VideoRam 8124

but again its alway 640x...

i change Depth  to 16   (default was 24)  just in case to not enougth memory
but nothing better!

my PC in work has 512 Ram and it's PIV 2.4 GHz

could someone redirectme to look for issues with this kind of problems
