hoary live (2005-03-24) test on various servers

Hi,
o I find the new keyboard selector UI confusing; it's not obvious
what the top item is (a choice? information?), and it's even more
confusing when you chose "find my layout by pressing random keys"
and at the end get thrown back to the same menu with no feedback.
Discussing this with Colin and Matthias on IRC and there seems to
be two (non-exclusive possibilities):
a) better highlight that the top item is your keyboard layout, (1)
by separating it and the possible action choices with a blank
line and/or (2) by add a prefix "Your keyboard layout: " or something
b) at the end of "press random keys for fun and profit" stage, drop
the user directly into the "see if you lucked out - type summat"
stage.
o The isolinux (?) "Ubuntu" boot logo doesn't appear on a HP DL145.
o On a couple of amd64 boxes, the brightness in X seemed very high.
However, the servers I'm installing on are behind a KVM with a
funky auto-adjusting monitor that's too clever for it's own good,
so I don't know if this is a genuine problem or not. Anyone else
seen it?
o When installing on an Apple Xserve, I need 'video=ofonly' which is
fine, up until I hit 'Logout' -> 'Restart' as the switch from X
back to the console fails. This is particularly problematic as you
can't see the "Press ENTER to continue" prompt.
o IBM e325 still needs hpet=disable for i386. Guess I ought to
actually report that as a bug. ;-)
o "No keyboard to configure" doesn't work on ia64 - I suspect, it's
not specific to ia64 though.
o Saw these messages during boot on ia64:
| * Not running depmod because /lib/modules/2.6.10-5-itanium-smp/ is not writeable.
| * Loading modules...
| ...done.
| FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.10-5-itanium-smp/modules.dep: No such file or directory
| * Starting Hardware abstraction layer:
| 18:36:56.166 [W] hald.c:302: Your kernel does not support capabilities; some features will not be available.
| ...done.
| This processor "" is known _not_ to support power-saving.
| * Starting powernowd...
o Finally on ia64, at the end of the serial live boot, there's no
serial console login to use!
