I'm thinking the update-manager and update-notifier should depend on a
different sources.list file.  I often have a number of repositories
enabled at any given time and don't want them included in the checks for
system updates.  This way one could use Synaptic for installing all
manor of software and never be worried the update-manager is going to
blow up their system:-).
