Array CD 6

Ubuntu Team:

The product is working very well.

I am using an nVidia, AMD Athlon 1700, Plextor 708a, Seagate IDE
system.

The only issues I have are as follows.

Without setting the DMA values using hdparm nautilus really struggles
writing CD's. On the other hand when the values are set (ie DMA=On)
Nautilus works very well. I believe most users will want to change
their DMA values. The issue is by default hdparms is loaded too early
during boot.

See
"http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=20040&highlight=hdparm"
for the hack. This should be fixed in future releases.

The second is gstreamer. The audio on my system is the best I have ever
heard. However, gstreamer video is jittery and out of sync with the
audio. There is of coarse MPlayer which provides a xine alternate but
if gstreamer can do for video what it has done for audio, there's the
solution.

This will be problematic if not resolved by the gold release.

Under the category of "it would be nice" I would add the boot splash.
Why? Hoary is the fastest booting distro I have seen and it adds a bit
of shine. Realizing there is more to it than this, I would re-work what
SuSE or Fedora has done with Ubuntu artwork.

Bottom line, I'm using it and I like it.

Good job and thanks ...
