Rescue option. [WAS: SCSI cd emulation]

I moved the thread to ubuntu-users...
But this belongs here:
When my system stopped to boot I used Mandrake boot cd rescue option to chroot
and install the old kernel.
Will ubuntu provide such a functionelity from the boot-cd?
