USplash's status?

Hi,

I'm interesting to know what is the status of that project. Is just a
idea, a design? or there is some code? 'cause in the wiki I can't see
any reference to no implementation. And with "apt-cache search splash"
nothing happen....
BTW, could be good idea while the USplash is not ready put the
Bootsplash patch to the kernel. The distribution seems really better for
the newbies with this feature ;)
