Probably nothing to write home about. Fedora's site claims total
backwards compatibility with "old-style" init scripts, so it's not like
a change in FC would necessarily force anyone to choose between keeping
the status quo or supporting the FCNewInit thing. I would think that
the Fedora devs would do whatever modifications to init scripts
themselves to make them work with their new system and then just
repackage the stuff for their users...kinda like how the ubuntu main
repository has the *-ubuntu packages.
But if one of the other systems turns out to be really good, then
distros might start picking it up and eventually it'll become the norm.
Anyway...it seems this situation is not wholly unlike the old disk
dev/devfs/udev thing.
