Installing smeg as the default menu editor?

Just thought of something... we might save some time/bandwidth by asking
the Gnome team why they chose the right-click approach rather than a
simple icon. Given that an icon is probably easier/more straight forward
to implement than a fancy entry in a right-click on the menu bar, and
given that they have usability teams, there must be a reason why they
went for the right-click. Or was it a one man/dictatorial decision ?
Would be good to see what their brainstorming on this subject produced,
maybe they put their pro/cons in a wiki page somewhere ?
