I am all in favour of silent updates or the Big red button. However it should be very easy to disable the button or the updates. Even pause all updates for the rest of the month (for those that exceed their download limit). There is nothing worse then a machine whining about updates when you don't want it to. 

I also think that the frequency of the update should be preportional to ones internet connection. A dial up user should only be prompted to update once a month unless an urgent security issue is found (even if the user selects this themselves)
