Colony CD 2

I have a huge-ish problem both off a clean colony2 install and a
hoary->breezy dist-upgrade. The boot process starts as usual, but
after a few entries (I believe halfway or somewhere near gdm start) my
laptop just shuts down. Power off. This happens in both normal and
rescue mode and right now I have no idea what to do. The process
itself is too fast for me to see the exact point this happens at, and
I'm pretty much clueless right now.

Anyone got the faintest kind of ideas?
For the record, this is an Elitegroup G556E
