I'm experiencing the same problem with gnome with both Colony 2 LiveCD and the 
Breezy install (dist-upgrade from Hoary) on my hard disk.

Maybe I'll give polyaudio a spin again since it was working pretty well for me 
in pre-released Hoary before the default was switch back to esound.

The other problem I'm experiencing with Breezy using my 7-year old and usually 
very reliable Matrox Millenium II graphics card is the corruption of the 
console. That seems to be related to this bug:
