Mime

Dear list,

How does mime (file-application association) work in
ubuntu? Or is it different for different applications?

I am creating a deb package for an application. I have
been trying to associate this application with a
filetype. When I click a "hej.torrent" link in
firefox, or a torrent file in nautilus, I want my app
(uLoad) to start. By looking at the filestructure in
/usr/lib and /usr/share it apperas to be  a bit of a
mess.
