Live CD - bad vfs

Just ran the latest Hoary live CD and was surprised that the gnome-vfs
integration still seems very weak. This is a reflection on the Gnome
project not Ubuntu. I love Gnome but it really needs some work in this
area unless I've missed something.
Using the live CD:
I can browse and connect to a Samba share but the share doesn't show up
in in the file open dialogs in any of the three apps I tested, Gimp,
Gedit and OOo. I then connected via ssh and both OOo and Gedit showed
the connection but the Gimp did not. OOo would not open any of these
files and Gedit still opened everything read only. It seems that there
has been very little work done on this basic functionality, which I'm
sure is going to upset a major portion of the corporate crowd.
In writing this I'm not only providing feedback but hoping the Ubuntu
crew can exert a little bit of pressure on the Gnome project to solve
this.
As a last but not least note, I'd like to say that Hoary looks really
nice and I'm looking forward to it.
