here or on the bugzilla?
In my case it booted but gdm didn't start properly; that left me in a
barely working console window (with the gdm error visible in another
virtual console). Then I had to manually stop gdm, modify xorg.conf,
and then restart gdm to get it to work.
A look at the xorg.conf file the Live CD created shows 2 problems on my machine:
*) my gdm problem was related to this error: "Unable to find a valid
framebuffer device". It seems the LiveCD initialization erroneously
set "UseFBDev" to true in the xorg.conf file. (my graphic card in an
old Matrox Millenimum II card)
*) monitor was not recognized. That's an old Warty problem
(https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2015) that was found not
fixable for Warty (but a maybe for Hoary)
