wxgtk and gtk2

Hi,
I have a problem working with wxgtk programs under hoary.
Because I'm working currently with a russian unicode locale, certain
localized programs using wxgtk give only menu items with small little
squares instead of cyrillic letters.
A good example is xchm (universe, as wxgtk itself). Try it yourself with
setting the locale to ru_RU.UTF-8.
This is caused by wxgtk2.4 linked to gtk1.2 which doesn't support unicode.
I know that this relates only to universe and is therefore not really
relevant to ubuntu at the moment, but it renders a lot of programs practical
useless. Some of wxgtk-linked programs are:
audacity
xchm
bochs
This is mostly obvious with well localized programs, audacity seems to have
no localized menus and therefore looks good.
A fix would be to try to link these programs to wxgtk2.5 (unstable
development line) instead of 2.4, which I'v tried for xchm where it worked
fine. The only needed change there was the Build-Depends line in the control
file.
Thanks for considering this.
Michael
