gtoaster (Gnome Toaster) is a fairly nice UI for CD burning. It looks
to be comprehensive enough, and I think it may be better than xcdroast
for Hoary Main. Examine and discuss; I'm going to guess that xcdroast
is more established, but the gtoaster UI is fairly clean. File list, cd
drive selection for destination, drag-and-drop, track list, all at your
fingertips and very presentable.
gtoaster needs to be updated though. It's a bit behind, looks like it's
gtk+1.2 still and can't find ATAPI CD burners! It seems to be copyright
1999-2001, which means you may need to kickstart development on it or
simply find another piece of software; this looks like abandonware.
Still, it's fairly mature and nice looking; I put my computer illiterate
uncle on it (after fiddling with it to teach it about an IDE burner!)
and he got it ok.
Is there an official Gnome project for CD burning? If not, it may be a
good idea to talk with the Gnome team and the author (Andreas Eckleder)
about updating to GTK+2.4 and making GToaster the official Gnome CD
Burning software, if nothing else better is available.
