Yes they are correct, they always point to the last installed kernel (or
the one before, unless you turn off "do_symlinks = yes"
in /etc/kernel-img.conf

If you type  man test  you will find that [ is used as as synonym for
the  test  command.

I mostly use  apt-file  because in contrast to  dpkg -S  and
grepping  /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.list, if also finds files that aren't
installed by a package atm.
