Blank screen after startup on todays live CD (feb 26)

Burned todays live cd and tried to boot into my Sony Vaio SRX 87P laptop.
Got a blank screen after startup. The last thing I see on the screen is
"starting gnome display manager" and "starting CUPS"

With the previous live CDs it used to boot into 800x600, while the lcd is
capable of 1024x768, which i had to fix manually by adding the horizsync
and vertrefresh.
