Hello

I have a Geforce 6600GT AGP, and using Hoary, with the driver from
universe. (6629) Module info follows:
--
root at blackhive:/var/log # modinfo nvidia
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.10-3-686/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko
license: NVIDIA
alias: char-major-195-*
vermagic: 2.6.10-3-686 preempt 686 gcc-3.3
depends:
alias: pci:v000010DEd*sv*sd*bc03sc00i00*

At system boot up, gdm cant come up. Here is a snapshot of the error. I
can send the entire log file if anyone needs it:
--
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

My kernel is Linux blackhive 2.6.10-3-686 #1 Thu Feb 10 05:53:42 UTC
2005 i686 GNU/Linux

What I have to do is this then:
Log in as root on console
killall gdm
modprobe nvidia
restart gdm

and then no problem. It loads perfectly.

Any ideas why this is happening? it only fails on system's boot.

Thanks.

Regards

Fred
