Compressing packages with bzip2 instead gzip?

As said... you compress only once. Specially if the package gets
recompressed on the central repository. This way the testing can be done
with tar.gz (much quicker) and after the package stabilizes, it is
recompressed & repackaged automatically.

That's only an idea though, as I have no access to the central repository to
try it myself... (although I could possible try the develop some kind of
automated repackagind robot in my own PC).
