Although sudo is the preferred method in Ubuntu for privileged users to
gaim root privileges, there are times when su is a better choice.  (For
example, when running as another user.)

Currently, Ubuntu does not, unlike most other Linux distributions, ship
with pam_xauth which allows X permissions to be inherited from the
original user.  (The other distributions also ship with this module
enabled.)  This means that using su is not a full solution -- X isn't
available.

I've created a patch which includes this module in the bug referenced.
The patch does NOT make pam_xauth configured by default.  

But I believe it should be enabled as well.
