Although sudo is the preferred method in Ubuntu for privileged users to
gaim root privileges, there are times when su is a better choice. (For
example, when running as another user.)
Currently, Ubuntu does not, unlike most other Linux distributions, ship
with pam_xauth which allows X permissions to be inherited from the
original user. (The other distributions also ship with this module
enabled.) This means that using su is not a full solution -- X isn't
available.
I've created a patch which includes this module in the bug referenced.
The patch does NOT make pam_xauth configured by default.
But I believe it should be enabled as well.
BTW -- I am not subscribed to the list, so please include me in any replies. Thanks.
