The Ubuntu Express installer that is being developed (and hopefully will
be the default Breezy installer) includes such functionality.

Ubuntu and any derived distro will be able to define a collection of
images to be shown during the 15 minutes (aprox) of installation. This
can be a combination of a GNOME tour (KDE tour for Kubuntu) plus
highlights of the main applications that are being installed.

I think the answer to the question of removing Workspace-Switcher from
the default panel is not as much related to distress or discoverability
as simply the need of the average new Ubuntu user of having more than
one workspace. I think it's good that new Linux users know such
functionality. But I think most of the new Linux users are simply happy
with one workspace. With browser + mail + chat + a couple of
applications maybe they simply don't need more workspaces.

My own example: I know Workspace-Switcher, my programmers friends
recommended it to me all the time, I gave it a try, I ended up removing
it because I didn't use it that much. This happened almost two years ago
with Debian+GNOME, I tried again when moving to Ubuntu, I ended up
removing it again. I like Workspace-Switcher, but I don't use it because
for the average use of my laptop I don't needed.

And the users that would need more than one workspace are possibly the
users that want to know more about the system they are using, so
including the functionality in this tour and/or the main instructions
should be enough - IMHO.
