"It seems there are few enough people using the modem component of
these drivers that blacklisting all the modems is feasible."


Probably the people who would prefer to disable the modem component of
their sound system are those who do not need it.  Like those who have
broadband internet.

>From what I see on the forums, people are trying Ubuntu (I.E. linux for
the first time) and wonder why their modem does not work.  They would
probably stick with it if the modem worked, or was easily made to work.
Instead they go back to Windows.  So, that would be why the above
statement is true.

Having users go back and forth from an OS to another just to be able to
get on thenet to find out why their modem is not working is
unacceptable.  If both sound and modem are not always available, the
users should be given a choice.  It seems to me that everything you
should need to get online should be in ship.
