Ubuntu derived distros - howto?

There doesn't seem to be a lot of documentation around even for the
original debian-cd script; I've been having a play with it with a view
to making DVD sized images for myself, but it's a bit of a low priority
job. It would be nice to have a packaged up version that could easily
make images of arbitrary size and contents, a bit like Mandrake's (as
was) MakeCD script.
