AMD64: crash on boot with smp kernel (on Linux certified system)

Hi again,

as a cross check I just installed on my CELSIUS
V810 machine
the "pure" AMD64 Debian unstable as available from the
alioth
repository.

A bit to my surprise the amd64-k8-smp kernels there
boot and
work absolutely without problems! More specifically,
I checked:

  kernel-image-2.6.7-6-amd64-k8-smp
  kernel-image-2.6.8-9-amd64-k8-smp

In contrast, on Ubuntu I used

  linux-image-2.6.8.1-3-amd64-k8-smp

This means that the boot bug is present in Ubuntu
AMD64
but apparently *not* in Debian AMD64!

>From the numbering scheme I would guess that the
Debian version
is newer, so perhaps an upgrade would fix this issue?

Cheers,

  Freddy
