True, the prelinked application is 0.5% slower according to those

Which numbers?  If you're referring to the "time needed to load objects"
that's kinda irrelevant -- that's just how long it took to haul it off
disk.

Ah, well, this is why gedit is such a useful test case:

descent scott% ldd /usr/bin/gedit | wc -l
61

It's pretty much an A* GNOME app so links with every toy shared library
you'll have on your system.
