No recovery-function on ubuntu-cd's?

You get to boot from the install CD, run through the installer up to the
start of the partitioning stage (but not further; up to this point the
installer doesn't write anything to the disk), press alt-f2, type 'mkdir
-p /target', type 'mount <wherever the Ubuntu root device is> /target',
type 'chroot /target', type 'grub-install "(hd0)"'.
Yes, this is unwieldy; I'm part-way through writing a rescue mode for
the installer that will eliminate most of these steps.
