Failure of autodetection in setup program

Hello!

I recently installed ubuntu on my laptop. Unfortunatly I had a small
problem in that the my network card was not autodetected. When the big
red message appeared saying there was no network detected, I pressed
alt+F2 and modprobed (after I made a few attempts I got the minimal list
down to):

pegasus
ohci-hcd
(at which point the light on my network card lights up)
My network card is a belkin USB 10/100 ethernet card (which is in the
pegasus driver) connected via a PCMCIA<->USB adaptor, also by belkin
(yep, I realise thats unusally complex)

After this, if I press alt+F1 back to the setup, click <go back>, and
reselect "detect network hardware" then setup continues as expected.

I hope this information is useful to someone, and I would be happy to
provide any other statistics / information that might be useful.

Chris
