Avoid installing the somewhat broken snd-intel8x0m driver?

Whenever I install Ubuntu, the snd-intel8x0m driver is installed for my modem.
While the actual PCI ID's, etc match up and this loads, it does nothing for me.
I know this is for PCI-based software modems, but many modems which this
driver is installed for don't work with this driver (any systems w/HSF modems,
which require a Linuxant driver, in addition to some systems w/SmartLink
which have trouble w/this driver). Thus, I don't think it is a good idea to
load this by default on systems w/ software modems detected by the installer as
using this driver. This should either be set up by the SmartLink driver, which
is unsupported at the time anyway, or not used at all. Any opinions on this?
It blocks some modem drivers (unsupported, of course - as Ubuntu doesn't
actually include any winmodem drivers) that DO work from actually installing.
