I guess it could go with Fluxbox or Openbox. Evolution could be replaced
with SylpheedClaws. Most stuff has his replacement in console. XChat can be
switched with Irssi/BitchX. Only problem I see, it's a webbrowser.
Firefox's too heavy for P166, Links is nice, but most people will not use
it, because it lacks ,,web exp.'' for them. eLinks and Dillo need some
work, because they are a little bit unpolished.
A little bit off-topic, but Im going to replace one of my old boxes (it's
SMTP/HTTP server) and give it away to my neighbour, who seems to not have
computer. And I don't think he could buy a new one. I'll put Ubuntu on this
box (without Gnome, it's far too weak;-) and, to complete computer set,
I'll get him a connection to my LAN network, with an Internet gateway. No,
Im not trying to put myslef in good light and get Peace Nobel. I just
pointing out that we, computer literate, should care for people who can go
without any computer knowledge. It will limit thier skills in adult life.
We all own some old computers, who became obsolete, and has no use for our
advanced stuff. Plus, giving away a Linux box as a first computer, will
bring another person to UNIX world.
Or maybe I should post it to gossip-ml? :)
