I guess, I'm more into coding, but currently busy with my diploma, so
I'm not asking for a suitable task for myself. It's just that I thought
"How could people in general start off helping out and get into a cool
project?". 

Last week a UNIX working group started at my university and I'd love to
be able to point people somewhere. At least, I'll give a brief talk on
doing a diploma thesis in/with/around Open Source stuff.
