<p dir=ltr>I'll keep the question as simple as it is:<br>
skype stopped working because of some protocol updates, and needs an update.</p>
<p dir=ltr>Nobody took care of updating it since 5 months.</p>
<p dir=ltr>Canonical claims that skype is officially supported via partner repository, if this isn't the case anymore, and since skype is a non free tool in my opinion we should update or remove.</p>
<p dir=ltr>Users shouldn't be allowed to install a broken package from an official archive.</p>
<p dir=ltr>BTW there are many bugs against skype, and many of them are easily reproducible and just missing runtime dependencies, I really would like to package a fixed skype version, but the launchpad ppa policy doesn't allow me.</p>

<td valign="top">Super... Apparently, nothing has been done until now ... and for many users it seems to be too late ...<BR>At least my skype 4.2.xx ceased to work on August 1st, 8pm CEST ... No update available from canonical ...<BR>And no real reactions here.<BR><BR>And even the "new" skype 4.3 from the skype web page didn't work in the<BR>beginning, since it produces segmentation violations when reading the<BR>old chat history ... Furthermore, video chats are not as good as before<BR>(for unknown reasons)<BR><BR>What the heck is going on here? If we support an application, then<BR>someone has to take responsibility, and ensure that always a running<BR>version is available.
