This package is not automatically installed when Kile is installed which causes a bug when starting with the 'article' template (see [1] and [2]): /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/base/input.sty:131:File 'utf8x.def not found.\endinput I think it is a very natural use case that someone would start with one of the templates such as the article template and non technical users would probably be at a loss with this error.
