I would just like to throw my two cents in and express my own disapproval of PulseAudio.<div><br></div><div>It's clunky and hard to configure, and personally I think it rather tries to do too much at once, and by so doing is latent.</div>

Actually, it was a stupid question on my part. VLC is working fine in<br>
my desktop and notebook so, indeed, it may/must be related to the<br>
"real" alsa driver.<br>
